Why You Should Upgrade Your Windows XP

Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP on April 8, 2014. End of support shows Microsoft Company will no more offer any technical support to companies or customers for Windows XP problems.

Even though Windows XP was released way in 2001, it is still an excellent operating system. It is stable, has a Start key and gets the job done. That is why there are many incredible number of computer systems that still have it set up. It is so popular, in fact, it is the second most operating system set up in the world, only a little bit behind Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS.

Windows-XP-Support-Ends-April-8-2014Unfortunately, this is not an excellent reason. The purpose until now has been extending the due period for when it would drop support for Windows XP, but now it seems they are going to kill it off. Microsoft will quit aiding Windows XP on April 8 2014. This is big information because it points out in about 4 months; there will be an incredible number of computer that are going to be vulnerable to hackers.

End of support shows Microsoft Company will no more offer any technical support to companies or customers for Windows XP problems. Besides and most importantly, Microsoft Company will no longer offer any protection patches or updates for the operating system. On top of that, you will not even be able to get Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows XP, the free antivirus application, after this date.

This is bad information for anyone who has Windows XP set up after this period. Because there are many protection weaknesses recognized in Windows XP every year. Hackers will use once the supports ends, all of those protection gaps and there will be anything to stop them.

Several Microsoft professionals have also stated freely that companies and users who do not upgrade the operating system or buy a new PC will be open to many new strikes. One possible solution if you still have to use XP for whatever purpose is to detach the computer from the Internet. Obviously, the PC can still be contaminated over the LAN system, but you will have a better chance than if it is linked directly to the Internet.

For any business that needs help for Windows XP past the April 2014 due period, another choice is to set up Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2003 uses the same kernel as Windows XP and therefore can run all the same applications without any boundary issues. Support for Windows Server 2003 does not end until July 15 2015, so you can get an extra year to upgrade your applications to a more recent operating system.

As for customers, according to Microsoft’s official statement, they would love for you to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

The other purpose to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8 is so you can use the latest application and devices with your computer. XP is so old that many new application simply will not run on it. However, some more recent gadgets and devices may not be recognized by the system properly.

Upgrading an old PC to Windows 8 is not a bad idea. The system requirements are low, significance you can set up it on some old components. Of course, you will have to buy Windows 8 Upgrade, which currently costs around $119, but that might be a better choice than buying a new computer.

Check out the link if you do set up Windows 8 and you get any mistake about the CPU compatibility error. With Windows 8.1, you also getting back the Start key, so if you have been holding back because of the lack of a Start key, it’s not that bad any longer in 8.1.

Whatever you end up doing, if you do not upgrade a Windows XP computer, make sure you do not have any important data on it because everything will be at risk. However, if it is linked with your local network, a hacker could still take control of the XP machine and then ruin other computer systems on the network, so the best factor is to get rid of Windows XP.
